At Pacific Moon Lodge, we practice a progressive, expression of Freemasonry that is deeply rooted in humanism and Enlightenment values. We treat the craft not as a rigid historical relic, but as an active, living framework for intellectual and moral development.
Our system is defined by three core characteristics:
Absolute Liberty of Conscience: We invite members to think critically, interpret symbols personally, and engage ideas philosophically. We require no dogmatic conformity or theological oaths, making our lodge a welcoming home for secular humanists, agnostics, and spiritual seekers alike.
Introspective Symbolism: We use quiet reflection, classic symbolism, and shared atmosphere to create moments of deep personal introspection. Our approach is experiential rather than coldly academic.
The Philosophical Salon: After our formal symbolic work concludes, members gather around a shared table for open, honest conversation. These festive hours feel like a salon of thoughtful friends—discussing philosophy, history, science, literature, or simply life itself.
We frame the traditional three degrees of Freemasonry not as institutional ranks, but as structured, progressive stages of human reflection and growth. Members advance through these symbolic experiences together, building mutual understanding and deep, lifelong bonds.
The first step is fundamentally about learning to observe oneself honestly. It provides a structured space to become conscious of one’s habits, personal assumptions, and individual place within society. It is an intentional, foundational exercise in self-awareness and intellectual humility.
The second step expands outward from the self and into the world. It focuses heavily on lifelong learning, cultural enrichment, science, philosophy, and understanding the vital, ethical relationship between the individual and civilization.
The final stage is a profound meditation on meaning, responsibility, mortality, legacy, and the ethical use of wisdom. It serves as a constant reminder that human beings are never finished products, and that wisdom must be actively applied to improve the world around us.
